-Required: minimum of 5 years work experience in the nursery industry (retail
and/or wholesale). Horticultural educational background preferred but not
-Excellent working horticultural knowledge of tree and shrub cultivars including but not limited to Pacific Northwest natives, botanical and Latin nomenclature, plant identification and pest control (IPM preferred) and care and planting requirements.
-Excellent sales and communication skills – ability to work well with co-workers and especially customers-provide excellent customer service.
-Excellent organizational and time management skills.
-Ability to lift and carry at least 30 lbs consistently throughout an 8 hour work day.
-Must be available for full time employment (40 hours per wk). Must be able to work one weekend day as well as one late evening shift (until 8:30pm).
-Computer literacy, money handling and retail Point of Sale system experience
-Must be a team player.
Take responsibility for receiving reviewing tree and shrub availabilities from growers
Order merchandise in a timely fashion – enter inventory in RMS Point of
Sale system and create purchase orders in RMS Point of Sale system
Keep detailed records of all merchandise ordered available for review by
Managers and other key personnel
Check in tree and shrub merchandise as it comes in, adjust inventory and
prices as needed in RMS, place and organize trees and shrubs into stock.
Work with other nursery buyers to integrate ordering – piggy back ordering,
Review sales reports of tree and shrub movement and adjust/accommodate
ordering quantities and practices accordingly.
Work with customers in the nursery yard providing answers to plant questions – growth habits, mature sizes, care and maintenance instructions, provide pest identification and control advice
Review customer requests for tree and shrub merchandise. Track availability
and order requested merchandise for customers. Call customers when their
requests come in; Keep detailed records of customer requests both filled and
pending (utilize RMS)
When applicable take responsibility for processing delivery of customer
Cashiering – cash handling, processing sales in RMS Point of Sale system –
returns, voids, gift cards, store credits, phone orders, etc.
Closing/Opening – close and open the nursery at least once a week – money counting (tills and safe), reconciling daily sales in RMS point of sale system, opening/securing nursery for the evening – lights out/on, chickens out, fed or put to bed, etc.
Manage back stock tree and shrub inventory at off-site holding yard
Interface with Holding Lot Coordinator to provide maintenance and care of
back stock inventory
Interface with Delivery Person in restocking the store with holding lot
trees and shrubs
Plan, coordinate with and assist Holding Lot personnel in spring pot up of
bare root merchandise.
