Go Natives! is looking for a summer intern to learn more about the operation of a native plant nursery. Go Natives! is a small retail nursery in Shoreline, WA. GN! offers about 150 native species and is involved in many community based projects related to restoration.
In exchange for assisting nursery staff with watering during the summer, lodging will be provided in a 1919 cottage on the grounds in the Richmond Beach suburbs.
Lodging will be available starting the end of May until the end of August. This is the perfect addition to a summer job in the area.
You can learn about propagation and soil mixtures for keeping plants alive in pots while enjoying the half-acre permaculture garden.
There are 2.5 other persons at the house, so the housing situation is
shared. The available room is furnished and has a very small (literally) bath.
Because several of the staff will be off for varying times during the summer, watering plants and dealing with the unpredictable heat in Seattle (it does come but when is a mystery). The intern will be expected to coordinate with the staff to assist with such tasks as directed, and work is expected to be about 30 hours a month, typically spread out over the month. Days start early and last late enough to allow watering within the confines of a day job.
Possible projects for the summer include working on the raspberries, apples, and other fruit and nut trees. Nursery projects may include rain garden construction, a gray-water planning project, and planning for a bog.
Please send a resume and your summer situation to Don at the email above.
