horticulturalist. This has the potential to move into a LEAD GARDENER position for the right person. You must be familiar with a wide range of ornamental plants/shrubs/trees, both in ID and care. You need to be able to ID plant disease. You must be a meticulous weeder and, know how to hand-prune PROPERLY. We do very little work with natives or edibles. We do NOT do lawns, big pruning jobs, or hardscaping. We are organic gardeners, but we do work for clients who may not be especially passionate
about our principles – and we deal with that in a gentle and educational way.
We do grunt work some days and fine gardening other days. Some of our gardens are small and ordinary--just weeding and battling ivy--but some are estates that require confidentiality agreements. You need to be ok with it all.
You need to be able to work independently or in a team. You need to be willing and able to go to ALL of our gardens (Seattle and Eastside), using your own vehicle (no mileage
reimbursement). I provide some tools (leaf-blowers, power-trimmers, etc.), but require that you provide your own weeding tool (e.g. hori hori), hand-pruners, hand rake, rake and shovel. I also require you keep your tools sharpened and in professional condition.
This has the potential to be a year around job for the right person.
I can give you between 20- 30 hours of work per week in the busy seasons, but probably only a few days a week mid December to mid February. Every year is a little different and weather-dependent. We usually work 5 to 7 hours a day, mostly in the 9am-3pm range —but you must be flexible. I will ask for a trial run (paid) of working with us for a day before hiring, to make sure everyone gets along. We are a small company and want a team member who works well with us. Starting wage is $18/hr for a training period of up to 3 months depending on your experience and initiative — and then $19-$21 DOE thereafter.
Please send salary requirements and a resume that includes your horticultural and other
background/interests to: Gardeninggaga@comcast.net
