*Job Description:
Seattle Tilth Watershed Stewards (two positions) will educate volunteers, businesses and the public on the importance of preventing toxic substances from entering the watershed via storm drains. These Stewards will also organize and help volunteers and businesses label over 5000 storm drains on public and private lands in the City of Issaquah in 2012 in order to keep Issaquah’s watershed healthy.
Compensation
This internship has a stipend of $1,325 on guarantee of work done.
Work Site
Watershed stewards work in neighborhoods and business areas throughout the City of Issaquah.
Time Commitment
Variable; depends on the number of volunteers and businesses that the interns can organize to button the storm drains. Work must be accomplished by the end of 2012.
Responsibilities
-Mark 5000+ storm drains in the City of Issaquah with "Puget Sound Starts Here" buttons.
-Supervise volunteer groups to button 1000+ storm drains on public lands in Issaquah neighborhoods.
-Work closely with businesses to button 4000+ storm drains on private lands within the Issaquah city limits.
-Solicit volunteers from the local community, including service and scout groups, schools and churches.
-Educate volunteers, businesses and the public on the importance of watershed pollution prevention in general and the Issaquah watershed in particular.
-As needed, attend meetings with project stakeholders including Seattle Tilth and the
City of Issaquah Resource Conservation Office.
-Provide administrative support through planning and record keeping.
-Communicate regularly with the Program Coordinator, other Watershed Stewards and other Seattle Tilth staff as needed to coordinate work plans and provide feedback about your internship experience.
-Work independently on projects as determined by the Program Coordinator.
-Represent Seattle Tilth to the public in a professional manner at events.

Training & Evaluation
Attend meetings with your supervisor and attend one organization-wide volunteer orientation to receive your initial training. We encourage regular communication to ensure a rewarding experience for you and the organization.
Important Dates and Deadlines for the Seattle Tilth Watershed Education Programs
§ Application period Feb 1st- March 1st, 2012.
§ Drain buttoning can occur only when the temperature is above 40 degrees F and the pavement is dry.
*Qualifications Required:
§ Issaquah resident preferred.
§ Ability to teach and inspire adults, with some prior experience in environmental education preferred. Must enjoy doing physical work outside and working with people.
§ Ability to lift 40 pounds.
§ Access to a car is necessary.
§ Computer and office skills are desirable.
§ Available during scheduled storm drain buttoning events.
§ Foreign language proficiency a plus.
